His Mission …… Our Mission

www.davemarjpatrick.com

The February Blog launch will seize the opportunity to honor African-American Mission history.

Without a history a people group stands in danger of being exterminated.
— Carter G Woodson (Originator of Black History Month)

1830 Slave code laws prohibited slaves to read and write. If caught they were sentenced to receive thirty-nine lashes on his or her bare back. In spite of enslavement, beatings, lynchings and other atrocities, slaves read the Bible and were obedient to the call from the Lord of the harvest.

Who was the first African American missionary?...

PRAISES!!!! HIGHLIGHTS & PRAYER REQUESTS

African-American mobilization efforts:

  • # 1 Pray for Kevin and his girlfriend, Alicia. He wanted to be sure if their relationship were to go to the next level that she would be open to missions.  We met with them both.  Praise God she has greater understanding and is willing to "Just Go'!
  •  # 2 Pray for an older coupe, Danny and Wanda Thomas - Wanda has been on several short-term mission trips. This April will be the first trip for Danny.  Together they will leave for Zambia.  Dave was able to encourage Danny how significant it is for foreign missions to see Black men involved in missions
  • # 3 Pray for us as we teach the missions course March 8th.  Pray for plans for mission trips later this year.

1896 H. Ernest Nichol, an Oxford University degreed musician wrote over 130 hymns.  This hymn became one of my favorite hymns as a child… We have a story to tell to the nations

Vs 1 We've a story to tell to the nations, that shall turn their hearts to the right, a story of truth and mercy, a story of peace and light,

Refrain:

For the darkness shall turn to dawning, and the dawning to noonday bright,
and Christ's great kingdom shall come on earth, the kingdom of love and light.

Vs 2 We've a song to be sung to the nations, that shall lift their hearts to the Lord, a song that shall conquer evil and shatter the spear and sword,

Vs 3 We've a message to give to the nations, that the Lord who reigneth above has sent us His Son to save us, and show us that God is love,

Vs 4 We've a Savior to show to the nations, who the path of sorrow has trod, that all of the world's great peoples may come to the truth of God,

Pray for the upcoming opportunities we will have to tell our mission story.
